Cheers Sexy People!
Happy Friday, Loving Without Boundaries community! I am super stoked to share my latest podcast interview with Alex Bove, Ph.D whom I was introduced to by Angel also known as Professor Sex. We were lucky enough to meet up last year at Atlanta Poly Weekend 2018, which was my first time attending and presenting at that long-standing conference. Alex and I hit off right away, deciding to join forces at the Saturday night party to sing “Love Shack” for karaoke. That’s one interesting way to get to know each other – so fun! Alex is a college professor at Widener University in the suburbs of Philadelphia, a sexologist, creator of the “Talk Like a Man” project and podcast, and a Renaissance man. Alex, thank you so much for your incredible research, your profound work with your Talk Like a Man project, and your educational pursuits helping make the world a better place for all of us!
Here is Alex’s bio:
Alex Bove, Ph.D. is a college professor and sexologist specializing in Men & Masculinities. He curates Talk Like a Man, a social media conversation about 21st Century masculinity. Talk Like a Man also has a podcast! In his spare time, he can be found baking vegan cupcakes and playing tabletop board games.
Some topics we discuss in this educational, fun, and fascinating interview:
— How Alex has identified as polyamorous for ten years.
— Alex is truly an East Coast boy born in Connecticut, then raised in Florida, ending up where he lives now in Philadelphia (my hometown) moving there back in 1995 and never looking back.
— A wonderful story that Alex shares is when he first met Dossie Easton, co-author of The Ethical Slut in San Francisco several years ago. Wow, so vulnerable! I also share about the first time I met Janet Hardy. So epic!
— One fascinating concept that Alex shares in terms of challenges in his relationships is how he feels that some folks’ IQ’s have not yet caught up with their EI (Emotional Intelligence). Truly enlightening thought process.
— Another vulnerable challenge that Alex shares is what he calls a classic poly story: 1) Dating a person who is mainly monogamous; 2) You start to seriously fall in love with said person; 3) Your crush meets someone else and falls for them; 4) They run off into the sunset with their new monogamous partner because they were always monogamous in their heart to begin with. Ouch! So he learned the boundary to “Date Your Species.”
— A great T-shirt idea Alex shared: “I don’t want to be anybody’s ‘Poly Sherpa’”.
— Alex mainly identifies as a Relationship Anarchist, thus he does not subscribe to using “primary” or “secondary” language in his relationships. He feels it’s a wonderful way to respect his partners’ autonomy as a way to live an ethical life.
— Alex shares with us how he came to study non-monogamous men, and where that journey took him.
— Tune in to listen to this awesome podcast episode!

1) Free LWB Facebook Group for Healthy, Sex Positive, Open Relationships — Ready to explore healthy, deeply connected (and virtually jealousy-free) open relationships? It’s all possible – especially when surrounded by a community of people already doing it. Many in newly open relationships experience roller coaster emotions of jealousy, insecurity, and feel alone on their journey. That’s why I created this free Facebook group where people are coming together to share actionable tips for succeeding in multiple loving relationships, explore deeper love, and find mutual understanding and support. There’s an abundance of rock star information posted in the group daily by our amazing members. We create a safe place to engage that’s fun and thrilling! Click here and request to join our free group!
2) World Domination Summit (WDS) Meetup; Portland, Oregon; Sunday, June 30, 2019, 1:30pm–3pm — Workshop: Jealousy Survival Guide. Jealousy can have an enormous impact on some people, so it is no surprise that people (especially those who practice consensual non-monogamy) think, talk, and write about it quite a bit. Using techniques from her book, “Jealousy Survival Guide”, Kitty Chambliss gives you inspiration and provides tools to gain and practice new skills. This is a comprehensive workshop and step-by-step template for recognizing feelings of jealousy and insecurity as they come up using effective tools for sorting through those emotions, and when, if, and how to bring up challenging or potentially emotionally charged conversations with loved ones. NOTE: You do NOT need to be a WDS attendee to come to this meetup that is being held at the locally famous McMenamins Ringlers Pub. Come join the fun, the adventure, and the celebration of community!
3) Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit (SFS), Alexandria, Virginia, August 15–18, 2019 — The Sexual Freedom Summit features human rights activists, sexuality educators and researchers, professionals from the legal and medical fields, authors, sexual freedom movement leaders and organizational partners all working toward the time when sexual freedom is fully recognized as a fundamental human right. This Summit is for EVERYONE interested in learning about the issues in the realm of sexual freedom, advancing their current knowledge and in gaining the tools to actually create the change we need to accomplish. I hope to see you there! ANNOUNCEMENT: I will be doing a live LWB podcast recording Thursday evening, August 15th around 7pm in Alexandria, VA with special guests Ruby Johnson and Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti. Stay tuned for more details!
