Cheers Sexy People!
Hello there, Loving Without Boundaries community! I am super excited to share my latest podcast interview with a recent guest of mine, Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti. Gloria reached out to me via the wonders of social media: Facebook chat. Ahhhh Facebook, how you have changed my life. 🙂 As we got to know each other over both digital correspondence and eventually our live interview, we found that our paths had crossed multiple times in the past, and will again soon. Gloria presented her powerful workshop “Transcending Shame” at the recent Poly Living Philadelphia conference this past February. I unfortunately only attended a part of that conference, or I am 100% certain that I would have attended her presentation, as this subject interests me greatly. Also Gloria and I will both be in attendance at the upcoming Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit this August (details below). I am super stoked to meet this amazing and vivacious woman (who has a vivacious laugh) in person. Gloria, my my my, how awesome and amazing you are! I am incredibly grateful that you took a chance, stood up for what you believed in, and reached out to me to come on the LWB show!
“TRANSCENDING SHAME” WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITY
Gloria will be presenting her “Transcending Shame” workshop this coming Saturday, June 1st at Gallery Erato in Seattle, 1pm–2:30 pm. Go to this link or follow this Facebook event link for more information: https://www.facebook.com/events/395929154561226/
Here is Ms. Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti’s bio:
Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti is a speaker, model, former fundamentalist Christian/cult member, and breast cancer survivor (5 years in remission). The 2013 diagnosis showed how short life is, causing her to come out as sex-positive/bisexual/polyamorous. She is interested in helping others identify shame, recognize shaming behavior, and transcend shame.
Some topics we discuss in this educational, touching, and fascinating interview:
— Gloria shares with us why she feels her breast cancer diagnosis was actually a blessing in disguise.
— She shares with us in depth about why she is deeply interested in helping others transcend shame.
— Gloria shares her favorite Brené Brown quote: “Shame needs three things to survive: secrecy, silence, and judgment. Empathy is the antidote to shame. The two most powerful words when we are in struggle: ‘Me Too.’”
— She shares what inspired her to first put her Transcending Shame workshop together. She describes how people used shame with her because it worked!
— Why she loves the book “Healing the Shame That Binds You” by John Bradshaw.
— Gloria describes how today she really does not care what anyone thinks, but it took her some time to get to the place she is today: Proudly proclaiming that she’s bisexual, sex-positive, and polyamorous. You go, girl!
— She shares much about her life going back to her fundamentalist Christian days, and how shame started way back then, with others thinking she was “weird” (as in “bad weird” versus “Keep Portland Weird – ‘good weird’”).
— No stranger to abuse, Gloria vulnerably shares how she grew up in an abusive home, where her father was incredibly abusive and angry quite often. As you can guess, her dad shamed her growing up… about things she should know as the older child. We discuss how shame can be expressed even with a simple facial expression by a parent to a child.
— A former polyamorous partner of Gloria’s even shamed her about experiencing the natural, normal, feeling of jealousy. Yet she overcame it all! Learn how by tuning in!
Thank you Gloria, for being so awesomely generous with your time, for your “transcending shame” work, and for sharing your wisdom and insights with us via the podcast interview! It was enlightening, engaging, and so fascinating! Follow her work and adventures on Facebook and Instragram @GloriaJacksonNefertiti and also on Twitter @GloriaJN.

UPCOMING POLYAMOROUS-FRIENDLY EVENTS
1) Free LWB Facebook Group for Healthy, Sex Positive, Open Relationships — Ready to explore healthy, deeply connected (and virtually jealousy-free) open relationships? It’s all possible – especially when surrounded by a community of people already doing it. Many in newly open relationships experience roller coaster emotions of jealousy, insecurity, and feel alone on their journey. That’s why I created this free Facebook group where people are coming together to share actionable tips for succeeding in multiple loving relationships, explore deeper love, and find mutual understanding and support. There’s an abundance of rock star information posted in the group daily by our amazing members. We create a safe place to engage that’s fun and thrilling! Click here and request to join our free group!
2) World Domination Summit (WDS) Meetup; Portland, Oregon; Sunday, June 30, 2019, 1:30pm–3pm — Workshop: Jealousy Survival Guide. Jealousy can have an enormous impact on some people, so it is no surprise that people (especially those who practice consensual non-monogamy) think, talk, and write about it quite a bit. Using techniques from her book, “Jealousy Survival Guide”, Kitty Chambliss gives you inspiration and provides tools to gain and practice new skills. This is a comprehensive workshop and step-by-step template for recognizing feelings of jealousy and insecurity as they come up using effective tools for sorting through those emotions, and when, if, and how to bring up challenging or potentially emotionally charged conversations with loved ones. NOTE: You do NOT need to be a WDS attendee to come to this meetup that is being held at the locally famous McMenamins Ringlers Pub. Come join the fun, the adventure, and the celebration of community!
3) Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit (SFS), Alexandria, Virginia, August 15–18, 2019 — The Sexual Freedom Summit features human rights activists, sexuality educators and researchers, professionals from the legal and medical fields, authors, sexual freedom movement leaders and organizational partners all working toward the time when sexual freedom is fully recognized as a fundamental human right. This Summit is for EVERYONE interested in learning about the issues in the realm of sexual freedom, advancing their current knowledge and in gaining the tools to actually create the change we need to accomplish. I hope to see you there!
