Cheers Sexy People!
Happy Thursday, Loving Without Boundaries community! I am really happy to share my latest podcast interview with Jonathan Lane, a DC/MD-based lawyer and mediator who specializes in serving the LGBTQ+ and polyamorous and kink communities. Jonathan originally reached out to me when he saw that I was local to him in the DC-metro area via the Polyamory Leadership Network as well as the Polyamory Coalition. If you have been looking for a poly-friendly lawyer who specializes in family law, child custody, pre-nuptial agreements in the DC/MD area, this is your man! Jonathan and I have had the good fortune of getting to know each other in real life, meeting for lunch in Arlington, Virginia, as well as running into each other at such conferences as: Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit, and Poly Living Philadelphia (my hometown). Building community and meeting in real life is such an important part of a successful consensually non-monogamous journey, creating a much needed support network. Consider joining our free Facebook group (link below and here). Jonathan, I am so grateful for this important work that you are doing. Thanks for being one of the superheroes we need right now!
Here is Jonathan’s bio:
Jonathan Lane is an attorney and mediator at JD Lane Law, a law firm in Maryland and Washington, DC. His practice focuses primarily on family law, including divorce, child custody, and protections for non-traditional families. He is interested in protecting the rights and self-determination of all individuals, partnerships, and families. He is especially focused on representing members of sexually diverse communities, including clients who identify as kinky, LGBTQ, polyamorous, and swingers. Jonathan is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as Executive Editor of the Journal of Law and Social Change and received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award.
Some topics we discuss in this educational, touching, and fascinating interview:
— Jonathan shares how he came to enter the world of polyamory. He has identified as polyamorous for several years.
— When he got married, Jonathan found an open-minded rabbi to discuss his relationship status with – remarkable!
— He shares how it can be difficult to find partners, especially when one is a “Baby Poly” or polyamorous newbie.
— Jonathan describes how he came to his particular niche of serving the LGBTQ+/polyamorous community, and how he wished he had come to it earlier.
— He advises that being proactive and forward-thinking with your relationships is a super smart move. There is value in all sorts of relationships, including those that may not last “until death do us part”. The end of a relationship does not mean it “failed.” Maybe consider planning ahead for that possibility.
— Divorce can be a very intimate thing to go through. Seeking a poly-friendly lawyer who “gets you” can be very beneficial during a difficult transition.
— Jonathan shares some of the most interesting cases he has worked on, including a three-parent custody case. Quite interesting!
— Tune in to listen to this great podcast episode!

UPCOMING POLYAMOROUS-FRIENDLY EVENTS
1) Free LWB Facebook Group for Healthy, Sex Positive, Open Relationships — Ready to explore healthy, deeply connected (and virtually jealousy-free) open relationships? It’s all possible – especially when surrounded by a community of people already doing it. Many in newly open relationships experience roller coaster emotions of jealousy, insecurity, and feel alone on their journey. That’s why I created this free Facebook group where people are coming together to share actionable tips for succeeding in multiple loving relationships, explore deeper love, and find mutual understanding and support. There’s an abundance of rock star information posted in the group daily by our amazing members. We create a safe place to engage that’s fun and thrilling! Click here and request to join our free group!
2) World Domination Summit (WDS) Meetup; Portland, Oregon; Sunday, June 30, 2019, 1:30pm–3pm — Workshop: Jealousy Survival Guide. Jealousy can have an enormous impact on some people, so it is no surprise that people (especially those who practice consensual non-monogamy) think, talk, and write about it quite a bit. Using techniques from her book, “Jealousy Survival Guide”, Kitty Chambliss gives you inspiration and provides tools to gain and practice new skills. This is a comprehensive workshop and step-by-step template for recognizing feelings of jealousy and insecurity as they come up using effective tools for sorting through those emotions, and when, if, and how to bring up challenging or potentially emotionally charged conversations with loved ones. NOTE: You do NOT need to be a WDS attendee to come to this meetup that is being held at the locally famous McMenamins Ringlers Pub. Come join the fun, the adventure, and the celebration of community!
3) Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit (SFS), Alexandria, Virginia, August 15–18, 2019 — The Sexual Freedom Summit features human rights activists, sexuality educators and researchers, professionals from the legal and medical fields, authors, sexual freedom movement leaders and organizational partners all working toward the time when sexual freedom is fully recognized as a fundamental human right. This Summit is for EVERYONE interested in learning about the issues in the realm of sexual freedom, advancing their current knowledge and in gaining the tools to actually create the change we need to accomplish. I hope to see you there! ANNOUNCEMENT: I will be doing a live LWB podcast recording Thursday evening, August 15th around 7pm in Alexandria, VA with special guests Ruby Johnson and Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti. Stay tuned for more details!
