Cheers Sexy People!
What a lovely podcast interview I have to share with you! I am so elated to share my latest podcast interview that I recorded with the beautiful, inspiring, and lovely Sara D, one of the two original Curious Foxes in New York (a community created with relationship coach Effy Blue). Sara is a passionate activist, writer, scientist, and professional geek. She earned a Masters in Epidemiology at NYU and a Bachelors in Neuroscience at MIT. Wowzers! In other words, she’s a bona fide nerd. Sara is dedicated to empowering people to make conscious choices in their lifestyles and explore their evolving identities with open minds. She has done this through writing and building an inspiring community of Curious Foxes in Brooklyn, NY. I was fortunate enough to meet Sara first when I was on a panel with Effy Blue in 2016 at the event, Poly Talks and Wry Relationships where I shared the stage very humbly and astonishingly with Janet Hardy, co-author of The Ethical Slut (you can here the entire panel discussion here). Then again when I was on a panel on the consensual non-monogamy panel at Consider This: A Day of Challenging the Status Quo in Sex and Relationships in the fall of 2017. Finally, Sara was kind enough to visit my humble abode to record this fascinating and fun interview. Sara has since left the employment of working with Effy Blue, but still has her heart in building community and relationships that suite each of our individual needs in an empowering way. Go Sara! I <heart> who you are, where you are going, and everything that you have done up until this point! I am so stoked for you to see where you take your career and your life. Sending big cheerleading and love your way, beauty!
Some topics we discuss in this educational and fun interview:
— How Sara first learned about the word “polyamory” and how she nerded out on research upon learning about this fascinating phenomenon!
— How the name “Curious Fox” came about and why she loves it (spoiler alert: there is is some cos-play in the story).
— Why and how she coined the term “Romantic Mentor.”
— How her communication skills have skyrocketed since exploring open-styles of relationship, including identifying and asking for what she needs in a healthy, fulfilling relationship.
— What she loves most about living a polyamorous lifestyle, such as how customizable they can be and as individual as the participants while allowing each love interest to maintain a sense of autonomy and freedom (yet still feel the love!)—> Relationships that are “just for us!”
— How she feels that creating a “safe container” for relationships —where everyone feels they have a safe place to share their deepest feelings in the moment — is paramount in her life and polycule.
— How she was surprised at her own capability to reduce her jealousy and get to a beautiful state of compersion, or sympathetic joy, in her relationships (and why I’m jealous about that).
— Why for her, cultivating curiosity and community are essential, as is building relationships with people that she admires, such as the infamous web-comic creator, Tikva Wolf who has been interviewed here several times!
Thank you Sara, for being so awesomely generous with your time, for helping create and nurture the beautiful Curious Fox community, and for sharing your wisdom and insights with us via the podcast interview! UPCOMING EVENTS
1) Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit (SFS) (Alexandria, Virginia), August 2–5, 2018 – The Sexual Freedom Summit features human rights activists, sexuality educators and researchers, professionals from the legal and medical fields, authors, sexual freedom movement leaders and organizational partners all working toward the time when sexual freedom is fully recognized as a fundamental human right. This Summit is for EVERYONE interested in learning about the issues in the realm of sexual freedom, advancing their current knowledge and in gaining the tools to actually create the change we need to accomplish. I already have my ticket! I hope to see you there!
2) Endless Poly Summer (West Virginia), August 17–22, 2018 – Endless Poly Summer has an eclectic yet integrated approach to creating an environment that allows each person to thrive. They bring in top-notch presenters who share a wide range of tools, techniques, and insights for dealing with all aspects of relationships, sexuality, and self-integration. The result is that the participants have a huge pool of technologies and practices to draw from. Each person is fully “at choice” in any of the events, and each person is free to use the insights and practices that work best for them. Not just another superficial meet-and-greet, Endless Poly Summer is 6 days long so that there is time for real connections to be made, and real interactions to flow from these connections. Campers help each other to work through issues that may arise, using new tools and techniques where appropriate, with the guidance of our experienced support team. NOTE: I will be giving two workshops at this year’s Endless Poly Summer on Saturday and Sunday! Tikva Wolf, famed poly web-comic creator, will be presenting as well. Come join us!
