Hello, Loving Without Boundaries (LWB) community!
I am happy and inspired to share my latest podcast interview with Gary Brick. Oooooh, how I have been waiting to capture a story such as his. I feel blessed and grateful that our paths crossed! Actually HOW our paths crossed is quite interesting. Having gotten out of an almost decade long relationship, I got myself out there on the dating app Hinge, which is how I met Gary. We had an initial meetup in downtown Washington, DC, near where we each co-habitate with our respective spouses. Once Gary started telling his story – wife went through menopause (check!), it negatively affected her libido (check!), and then they had deep discussions surrounding opening up their relationship (check – yet my conversation with my husband was 22+ years ago), I KNEW I wanted to ask Gary to come on my podcast. I have both friends and clients who find themselves in sexless marriages that they most often DO NOT want to leave. They want to find a different alternative. And that’s exactly what Gary did: ethically, with integrity, honoring both his wife’s wishes and needs, as well as his own. Whether you find yourself in a sexless relationship and don’t want to cheat, or not, Gary’s story is totally worth giving it a listen. Gary! Thank you for saying “yes” to courageously telling your story, and thank you to your wife as well! Us post-menopausal women know how challenging navigating that part of our lives is. Hormone-Replacement Therapy (HRT) works for some but not all. And I love you honoring your wife’s boundaries, Gary, and her autonomy, while keeping your marriage intact. Go you!
Here is his Bio:
While having heard, and even read, about polyamory, it always seemed the stuff of fantasy or science fiction, since that’s where Gary Brick mostly encountered it. Having been thoroughly indoctrinated into the norms of monogamy, it never occurred to Gary that any form of consensual non-monogamy was something he could be a part of. And then, life happened. After now practicing polyamory for almost five years, Gary has found the emotional work, honesty, and openness necessary for maintaining more than one romantic relationship has made him a much better partner than he thought he’d ever been.
Some topics we discuss in this highly interesting, informative, and thought-provoking interview:
-
Discovering his polyamorous orientation after intimacy struggles.
-
Importance of empathy over resentment, and understanding his partners experience while maintaining his own needs for intimacy..
-
How his college experience with non-monogamy shaped his early understanding that emotional connection outweighed jealousy.
-
Communication and emotional honesty as pillars of a relationship’s evolution.
-
Using verbal agreements to set clear boundaries to maintain trust and emotional safety.
-
Intentionally using selective and careful approach to forming connections.
-
Time management emerging as a key challenge when balancing multiple commitments.
-
Tune in to listen to this fantastic podcast episode!
