Cheers Sexy People!
I am so totally stoked to share my latest podcast interview with you that I recorded with Timaree Schmit – podcast hostess of “Sex with Timaree” and Philadelphia-based burlesque dancer! Wow, what great interview! I was thankfully introduced to Timaree’s work via our mutual friend and colleague, Dr. Elisabeth Sheff. Thank you, Eli for the introduction! Timaree is such a spectacular and fun person to talk to – humorous, light-hearted, as well as fascinating and highly intelligent. I had no idea I was going to be speaking to a PhD-level burlesque dancer that day but lo and behold, that is exactly who I was talking to! We had a lively conversation sparkling with energy as well as good ole fashioned Philadelphian fun! Dr. Timaree: I hope to meet you in person soon at a kickass burlesque show in my hometown of Philadelphia. I can’t wait!
Some topics we discuss in this awesome and educational interview:
— Her original story of how she identified as bi-sexual which involved her Barbie dolls, and how she felt like the only person who identified that way.
— The power of media representation and diversity of voices.
— Why the assumed “compulsory monogamy” in our culture does not help any of us.
— Why jealousy can be a super helpful emotion for us versus shunning it or trying to push it away.
— Different ways to be in relationship (such as embracing vulnerability) versus an adversarial approach to sexuality.
— Why vulnerability can be such a strength in building healthy relationships.
— Why the burlesque scene in Philadelphia is expanding, a political art form, sex positive, very queer, as well a grand repository of thriving “naked weirdos”. Check out all things burlesque and Philadelphia at burlesqueadelphia.wordpress.com.
— Why she gets to “do alot of things naked”, how she LOVES it, and how that came to be!
— How she got her burlesque name, Honey Tree Evil Eye. Spoiler alert: It’s a great story!
— Why her two great passions are education and burlesque… WHAT? A stripper with a PhD? That is SO COOL! Dayuuummmm!
Thank you Timaree, for being so awesomely generous with your time, for your sex-positive education work including your own podcast, and for sharing your wisdom and insights with us via the podcast interview! Hi Timaree,
My poly family and I caught your act in the “Do Both” show at the AllWays Lounge in New Orleans on April 19th. We were the table of 5 at the front right by the stage. I just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed the show and both your bisexuality talk and the burlesque. You, and the rest of the performers are amazing.
Thank you!
Mike
never mind… thought this was her page
I’m sure she will see it. I will leave the comment there for her. 🙂
